What browsers can I use? Does Open Courses work on a mobile device?
D2L Open Courses is built on D2L's Brightspace platform. D2L is committed to performing key application testing when new browser versions are released. New and updated functionality is also tested against the latest version of supported browsers. However, due to the frequency of some browser releases, D2L cannot guarantee that each browser version will perform as expected.
I registered for a course but I cannot log in. What should I do??
There may be a few reasons that you cannot log in.
I registered for a FREE course, why did I receive an Invoice?
When you register for a $0.00 (free) course, an email will be sent to you confirming your order was processed and that the email address that you used to enroll into the course is a valid email address. You will not be charged for any $0.00 course you enrol in.
Can I download or print course materials?
Printing the course content is not an option for any course on this Site. Depending on the course you are enrolled in, Content Provider may provide portions of their course content as an electronic download.
Do I have to be registered with a University or College to take courses on this system?
Organizations are opening up their doors to all learners within their regions and around the world.
While most MOOCs are open to registrants 13 years of age and older, certain MOOCs require you to have attained the age of majority in your jurisdiction to register and/or participate.
Are there prerequisites required to take a course?
Most MOOCs do not require a prerequisite to be met before access is granted. Some MOOC facilitators may ask you to do an online pre-assessment quiz to help gauge your knowledge in the topics before opening up the rest of the content. In this case, they will guide you on what to do based on your pre-assessment results.
Will I be able to contact the MOOC instructor?
Once you register for a course, the instructor will give you different options to communicate with him/her. Please see the details inside of the course.
How do I get an Open Courses ID and password?
The first time you register for a MOOC in Open Courses, you will be asked to create an Open Courses ID and password. You may then enrol in your first course.
What type of content is available on the Open Courses site?
The D2L Open Courses catalog will contain MOOCs that have open registration, those that are scheduled for the future and those that have been run in the past. Each entry in the catalog has an abstract describing what to expect if you register.
I already have an ID and password from other D2L / Brightspace systems, can I use that ID for Open Courses?
While many organizations use Brightspace as their internal learning system, D2L Open Courses is a standalone site. You must create a D2L Open Courses account. If you already have a D2L Open Courses account, you can register for one or more MOOCs from any content provider listed on the Open Courses catalog.
Do I have to pay to take Open Courses MOOCs?
While most courses will be free to learners world-wide, some organizations may charge an up-front fee to take the course or a fee at other points in the course for those learners that want to obtain value-added services related to the course.
Do Open Courses have any courses that count for credit?
While most courses will not count for credit, some organizations may offer credit and if so, fees may apply. Please see the course abstract for more details on any fees.
I've never used Open Courses before, how will I know how to use it?
Once you have an Open Courses ID and password, learner Open Courses Basics help videos are available inside the Open Courses site.
How is my data being used?
To access the Materials on D2L Open Courses, you are required to create and use your unique email account and password as prompted when completing our online registration form.
The information we obtain through your use of this Site, including your Data, is subject to our Privacy Policy which is incorporated by reference into the Terms of Use for each course. By using the Site, you also grant us the right to disclose your Data to third parties. We, our Content Providers, Partners and certain third parties may use the Data (i) in aggregate form for certain business purposes; e.g. to create other materials and services by performing statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of all users, and/or by measuring demographics and interests regarding specific areas of the Site; and (ii) to contact you if you have opted into receiving different forms of email communications.
